The Oaks Tavern

I did not buy any food. One of the bartenders had a long conversation with a customer ignoring other customers. The place was very busy. The karaoke lady is very, very good.

Good and bad points when it comes to my visit at the Oaks Tavern. A bit dark and no real stage to speak of but very nice seating to watch the entertainment. Security greets you at the door and and always a good plus in my book. limited parking and mostly on Street. Prices of drinks are competitive.

Good average bar, staff is great, drinks are good, the big draw here is the Karaoke. Not the best sound system or stage/set up, but they do a good job overall. The hosts are good, the crowd is lively, and definitely some good times to be had here. It is crowded and noisy most nights, so it's a popular place.

I visited The Oaks Tavern with a few fellow veterans, and unfortunately had a disappointing experience at the door. I didn’t have my standard ID with my birthdate on it, but I did present both my VA ID and my birth certificate forms of identification that clearly verify who I am. Despite this, the doorman was hesitant to let me in, and when the manager came out, they didn’t engage with us or try to understand the situation. Instead, they quickly and coldly told the doorman to deny entry. As a veteran, this felt frustrating and uncomfortable. I understand businesses have policies, but rejecting valid forms of identification like a VA ID and birth certificate without any attempt at communication felt unnecessarily rigid. We ended up going elsewhere and had a much better experience. I hope management can take a second look at how situations like this are handled, especially when it comes to respectful communication and reasonable discretion.

We had to go up to bar and order drinks. Between the a/c and the ceiling fan, it was positively Arctic. Finally, poetry readings were mostly morbid, not the advertised karaoke 😒
